BCT Day 6 (30th)

Before we get to Day 6, the big news: We got our first letter from Nathan today! Yes, I half-screamed when my mom told me :D Sadly, my parents went camping and took the letter with them - so I don't have it here to reference. The letter was written on the 27th (Sunday). Mainly, he said his room mate and he are getting along, that he was pleased with his 1.5 mile run time, that he is an element leader in his flight (an honor which means that he walks in the front line right behind the cadre [the upperclassmen bosses]), and a bit about chapel on Sunday. So we are very happy to have received that :D :D :D

Ok, so Day 6......WebGuy posted a nice little blog post describing the day, so I'll just take his word for it :D That way you also get a taste of his fun sense of humor :)
"The Basics got up at 0430 and went to PT. After that, they showered (thank goodness) and got their room set-up for the day. Next, they went over for breakfast, ate, and got mentally prepared for the day.
First thing after breakfast were Foreign Language Placement exams. That lasted all morning. Midday, they did the formation and lunch. I shot photos for that. Unfortunately, I had not eaten yet and they were having Meatball subs. MMMMMMM. Cholesterol-rific!
In the afternoon, it was very basic. Flight Time to catch up on some topics. Flight Drill to practice marching. Nothing earth-shaterring.
Tonight they just finished dinner. From 1830 - 1930, (be still me heart), it's time for weekly height and weight checks. Woo Hoo! The Academy wants to make sure no one is losing an unusual amount of weight. If they are, they'll need to be monitored in case their calorie intake needs to be raised.
WebGuy Note: I never understood the "height check" part. I've heard of people being cut down to size, but I've never seen anyone physically shrink. C'mon. Do you really think someone is going to noticeably get taller or shorter? Maybe in a movie.
From 1930 - 2000, it's more Flight Time. Again, this is an opportunity for the Flight to get information out to the flight members or to cover something that might have to be trained again.
From 2000 - 2100, they have Hygiene/Personal Time. Looks like they're getting them to bed early since TAPS is an early 2100."

Now for a few pictures - these are all from the noon formation. Most of them don't include Nathan very well, but they're all I found for today.
This is the Aggressors Squadron marching by the tourist viewing area on its way to lunch.
Here is a picture from the front. Nathan is just behind and to the left of the person in the different-colored-uniform, just to the left of the flag (which is called a "guide on").
Nathan's Squadron after they turned a corner. Behind them is the USAFA chapel, an iconic landmark.

Webinator (an assistant of WebGuy's) also had lots of good blog posts about today, but I'll save that for tomorrow since it's late and in case any pictures of Nathan from today are put up later.
